Füssenich Abbey

History+
The Füssenich Monastery was founded in 1147 as a settlement for Premonstratensian nuns. Over the centuries, the abbey developed into an important religious center. Between 1711 and approximately 1750, the monastery buildings and the church underwent extensive reconstruction in the Baroque style. As a result of secularization, the monastery was dissolved in 1802. The church was subsequently elevated to the parish church of Füssenich, while the monastery buildings passed into private ownership and were later used as a manor. A donation in the late 19th century led to its transformation into an agricultural educational institution for girls, known today as the St.-Nikolaus-Stift.
