Gransee Abbey

The Franciscan monastery, a historic building, is located in the heart of the old town. Its origins date back to the 13th century, making it one of the oldest preserved buildings in the city.

The Monastery Church

The monastery church is a three-aisled basilica with a choir and a transept. The interior is characterized by its simple elegance. Particularly noteworthy are the Gothic frescoes in the choir and the Baroque altar.

The Cloister

The cloister is a rectangular courtyard surrounded by arcades. It served the monks as a place of contemplation and prayer. The cloister is particularly impressive due to its well-preserved Gothic tracery windows.

Today, the Franciscan monastery is used for various cultural events. Concerts, exhibitions, and lectures regularly take place here. The monastery also houses a museum that provides information about the history of the monastery and the city.
