The Grey Friars Monastery in Schleswig-Holstein, named after the color of the order's habit, was once a significant Franciscan monastery. Located in Schleswig-Flensburg, it stands today as a testament to medieval monastic architecture, with its preserved sections now utilized by the city administration.

History+

The Monastery of St. Paul was founded in 1234. It was inhabited by brothers of the Franciscan Order and grew to become one of the largest Franciscan monasteries in what was then Danish territory. Throughout its history, it hosted several provincial chapters. In the course of the Reformation, the monastery was dissolved between 1528 and 1529. The convent buildings were subsequently converted into an almshouse, while the original monastery church served as a town hall after secularization and was later replaced by a new building.
