Heilig Schutzengel Abbey

The convent was founded by the Munich branch of the English Ladies in 1683 by Philippine Baumfelder from Burghausen and five fellow sisters with the permission of the Archbishop of Salzburg. This was followed by the establishment of a convent school and later a girls' boarding school. For this purpose, the house of the court and judicial advocate Franz Wilhelm Baumfelder (Philippine Baumfelder's brother), who died in 1681 and had initially bequeathed it to the church, was bought back. In 1731, the dilapidated building was demolished and rebuilt by Johann Martin Pöllner. The consecration took place in 1746. In 1803, the convent in Burghausen became the central convent for all other houses of the order in Bavaria. The dissolution in the course of secularization did not take place until 1816, and the sisters moved to Altötting. In 1826, however, school operations resumed with the approval of King Ludwig I. In 1852, a children's day-care center was established. The English Ladies were also active in elementary schools until 1984. The Maria-Ward-Realschule Burghausen is still located in the convent's premises today. The convent itself was closed on May 21, 2018.

The Schutzengelkirche forms the center of the convent. Above the portal is a group of guardian angels, created around 1770 by Johann Georg Lindt. The stucco work on the church ceiling is from the early Rococo period and was renovated in 1989.
