Heiligenthal Abbey

The Heiligenthal monastery was founded in 1234 as a Cistercian convent and was dedicated to Saint Mary. During the 14th century, the community faced difficulties, leading to a reform in the late 15th century under Prince-Bishop Lorenz von Bibra. The final dissolution and secularization of the monastery occurred in 1579 under Prince-Bishop Julius Echter. The monastery's possessions were subsequently allocated to the Juliusspital in Würzburg. In the 19th century, the remaining buildings and lands passed into private ownership and have since been used for agricultural purposes.

Heiligenthal Monastery is situated in the Heiligenthal district of the municipality of Schwanfeld, near the city of Schweinfurt in Bavaria, Germany. Its geographical elevation is approximately 246 meters above sea level.

Of the original monastic complex, mainly the church from the late 13th century has been preserved. The former monastery buildings and lands are now privately owned and are utilized for an agricultural operation.
