The former Augustinian Canons Regular Monastery of Höglwörth is situated on a peninsula in Lake Höglwörth.

History+

The Monastery of Höglwörth was founded in 1125 by Archbishop Konrad I of Salzburg. It was dedicated to Saints Peter and Paul and was run by Augustinian Canons Regular. A unique aspect of its history is that Höglwörth was the only Bavarian monastery to escape secularization. This was because it only became part of Bavaria in 1816, along with the Rupertiwinkel. Nevertheless, the monastery was dissolved shortly thereafter, in 1817, at its own request.
