Monastery operation

The Ingolstadt Monastery, a complex in Bavaria, continues to serve as a place of monastic life today.

History+

The Ingolstadt Monastery was founded in 1275 by Duke Ludwig II the Strict of Upper Bavaria. It was dedicated to the Franciscan Reformists and named Maria Himmelfahrt. In 1802, the monastery was dissolved as part of the secularization. After a period of vacancy and looting from 1827, the Franciscans moved to a new residence in the city center. In 1837, the fortress construction directorate took over the buildings, later renting them to the NSDAP in 1943, among others.
