Inzigkofen Abbey

The Inzigkofen Monastery was founded in 1354. Initially established as a small hermitage by bourgeois women from Sigmaringen, the community soon joined the Third Order of Franciscans. From 1394 onwards, the convent underwent an Augustinian reform movement and adopted the rules of the Augustinian canonesses. The monastic community, which at times comprised up to 30 canonesses, placed great emphasis on mystical piety, choral prayer, and meditation. The convent was known for its sophisticated musical life, artistic convent works, and an extensive library. In 1803, the monastery was dissolved as part of the secularization. The patron saints of the monastery were Mauritius and John the Baptist.

Inzigkofen Monastery is situated in the municipality of Inzigkofen in the district of Sigmaringen, Baden-Württemberg, Germany. It lies at an elevation of approximately 628 meters above sea level.

The largely preserved monastic complex today presents itself as a significant architectural monument with architectural evidence from the Gothic to the Baroque and early Classicism. The buildings are utilized as a Volkshochschulheim (adult education center) and serve as a regionally important center for adult education.
