The former Capuchin monastery of Königshofen im Grabfeld, once a significant sacred building in the Diocese of Würzburg, is located in the Bavarian region of Rhön-Grabfeld. Although the monastery buildings no longer exist, the preserved monastery church bears witness to the long history of this place and is now a protected monument from the past.
History+
As early as 1593, there were initial attempts to establish a monastery in Königshofen. However, these plans only became concrete later when the city, in 1647, asked Bishop Johann Philipp von Schönborn for support. The first Capuchin fathers initially found accommodation in the Juliusspital. The monastery existed for several centuries until it was dissolved in 1973 due to a lack of new recruits. At that time, only a single father had been active in the monastery for several years. The original monastery buildings were acquired by the city and demolished as early as 1971.
