Kronach Abbey
Kloster Kronach, a former Franciscan monastery, is situated in the Upper Franconian town of Kronach in Bavaria. It is notable for its preserved monastery church and its continued use by a religious order.
History+
The foundation of Kloster Kronach dates back to 1649, established by the Strasbourg Observant Province of the Franciscans. Initially serving as a hospice, it evolved into a convent from 1674 with the consecration of its monastery church. The monastery was dedicated to Saint Peter of Alcantara. The dissolution of the monastery occurred in 1829 as part of the secularization process, but the buildings remained intact. Later, Oblate Fathers took over the church and parts of the former monastery buildings, while other areas were repurposed for educational use.

The monastery is located in the town of Kronach, in the federal state of Bavaria, Germany, at an elevation of approximately 312 meters above sea level. The town is part of the Upper Franconia region.
