Lenzfried Abbey

Lenzfried Abbey is a former Observant Franciscan monastery in Lenzfried, a district of Kempten, a city in the Bavarian administrative region of Swabia.

The Franciscan monastery, dedicated to St. Bernardino of Siena, was founded by Heinrich Belzinger and other patrons in 1461. From 1548 to 1643, the monastery was dissolved, but Franciscan nuns looked after the monastery grounds. In 1649, a convent with 12 fathers moved back into the old monastery buildings, while the Franciscan nuns were able to move into their newly completed St. Anna monastery. A three-wing complex was built in 1683 by Hans Mayer and in 1765/67 by Joseph Galler. A new high altar was acquired from Lechfeld Abbey in 1748.
