Kloster Liebfrauenberg

The former Liebfrauenberg Monastery, a cultural monument in Rhineland-Palatinate, is nestled in the picturesque landscape of the Southern Wine Route. The complex, characterized by its historic architecture and elevated position, offers a special insight into regional history and development.
History+
The origins of the site date back to the “Frauenbergerhof,” a farm estate that existed until 1899. With the construction of the monastery buildings, the site was named Liebfrauenberg. Here, the community of Sisters and Brothers of Saint Paul dedicated themselves to caring for seniors and individuals with intellectual disabilities. Over the 2000s, the monastery lost significance and was eventually dissolved. After being sold to a private investor, the entire complex underwent extensive renovation. Today, the former monastery building and a new construction house the St. Paulus-Stift retirement home. An agricultural part of the complex also operates as an equestrian center with horse breeding. In 2018, plans for tourist enhancement were approved, including multi-generational living, assisted living, a multi-purpose hall, a motorhome pitch, treehouses for overnight stays, and a climbing park.
Location+
The complex is located in the northern part of Bad Bergzabern's municipal area, northwest of the town's settlement. It lies at an altitude of 300 meters, surrounded by forests and meadows, approximately 120 meters higher than the town center. To the east of the monastery, the Haardtrand – Steinbühl nature reserve borders the area. To the north, the 315-meter-high Eulenkopf rises. The nearby large vineyard site of the Palatinate wine region is named “Kloster Liebfrauenberg” due to its proximity. The Liebfrauenbergweg leads to the complex from the east, while Kreisstraße 29 connects to the property from the west.
