Lobenfeld Monastery, located in Lobenfeld, a district of the municipality of Lobbach in the Rhein-Neckar-Kreis, is a historic monastery in Baden-Württemberg. The monastery church is considered one of the significant Staufer monuments in the region.

History+

The foundation of Lobenfeld Monastery by Augustinian Canons took place around the year 1139. It was established on a former manor, which passed from the Staufer to Meginlach von Obrigheim, who then donated it to Bishop Burchard II of Worms for the purpose of founding a monastery. The canons from Frankenthal undertook the construction on behalf of the Diocese of Worms. Emperor Frederick I Barbarossa confirmed the monastery's possessions in a document between 1181 and 1187, which also mentions earlier dispositions by King Conrad III and Duke Frederick II of Swabia, indicating a foundation before 1147. The monastery received various endowments in the 12th century, including two marks in 1167, when it was first mentioned in a document. In 1173, it acquired further land from Abbot Sigehard of Lorsch.
