Mallersdorf Abbey

The founding of Mallersdorf Abbey took place in 1107 by Heinrich von Kirchberg. Religious individuals from Michelsberg Abbey in Bamberg, possibly also from St. Emmeram in Regensburg, settled the new community. Under Abbot Eppo, who served from 1122 to 1143, the monastery experienced reformatory influences and was placed under the protection of Pope Innocent II. In 1136, Eppo dissolved the then existing double monastery, after which the women's convent moved to Eitting. The late Middle Ages were characterized by Romanesque church buildings, a flourishing period in the 13th century, and the Kastler Reform.
