Kloster Maria Hilf

The building's origins date back to 1838, when entrepreneur Franz Witthof established a wallpaper factory here. After his election as mayor of Bornheim in 1864, he also moved the municipal offices into the factory building. Following his death in 1870, his widow Katharina Witthof sold the property in 1883 to the Cologne order of the Cellitinnen. In October of the same year, the Maria Hilf Monastery was officially founded. Over the following decades, the monastery was expanded multiple times and served as an orphanage, holiday home, retreat house with a domestic science school, and finally as a nursing home. In 1989, the nuns relocated the nursing home to a new site. Subsequently, the building housed, among other things, the municipal kindergarten and facilities of the Landschaftsverband Rheinland. In May 2011, the former monastery became the property of Roggendorf GbR, who converted it into apartments, a boarding house, and a theater, although the theater operations were later discontinued. Today, it is primarily used as a boarding house and by the VHS.

Maria Hilf Monastery is situated in Bornheim in the Rhein-Sieg district, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. Its elevation is approximately 60 m above sea level.

The listed building of the former monastery now accommodates apartments, a boarding house, and is utilized by the city of Bornheim for the adult education center. The municipal kindergarten is also located here.
