Maria-Schnee Abbey

In Lülsfeld, in the Lower Franconian district of Schweinfurt, the Maria-Schnee Monastery was an institution of the Roman Catholic Church. Originally a hospital, it evolved into a vocational school for home economics and served as a residence for the Congregation of the Daughters of the Most Holy Redeemer.
History+
The origins of the Maria-Schnee Monastery are linked to Pastor Augustin Bandorf, who around 1880 planned to build a specialized hospital in Lülsfeld based on electro-homeopathy. Financial difficulties forced him to halt construction in 1885. Bishop Franz Joseph von Stein of Würzburg then facilitated the purchase of the unfinished property by the Congregation of the Daughters of the Most Holy Redeemer. These sisters planned to establish a vocational training school for young women and a retirement home there. The name “Maria Schnee,” which Bandorf's hospital already bore, was retained. The home economics school opened in September 1886 and received state accreditation in 1932.
