The Mariaberg Monastery, a former spiritual institution, is situated at an elevation of 727 meters above sea level in Gammertingen, Baden-Württemberg. Today, it is one of Germany's oldest and most pioneering comprehensive facilities for disability support.

History+

Mariaberg Monastery was likely founded by the Counts of Gammertingen and housed nuns for over 600 years. Initially, Augustinian nuns resided there, followed by Benedictine nuns from the late 13th century until secularization in 1802. After a ten-year vacancy, in 1847, the senior district physician of Urach, Carl Heinrich Rösch, moved into the premises and established a healing and care institution for young people with intellectual disabilities.
