Marienau Monastery is a contemplative Carthusian monastery in Seibranz, a district of Bad Wurzach in the Ravensburg district. It is the only existing Carthusian monastery in the German-speaking world and has served as a home for monks since 1964.

History+

The Marienau Charterhouse was built between 1962 and 1964 according to designs by architects Emil Steffann and Gisberth M. Hülsmann. It was established as a replacement for the Maria Hain Charterhouse in Düsseldorf-Unterrath, which had to be abandoned due to urban expansion and the expansion of Düsseldorf Airport.
