Mariengarden Abbey is a Catholic monastery of the Oblates of Mary Immaculate in Burlo, a district of Borken in Westphalia. To distinguish it from Kleinburlo Abbey, it is often referred to as "Grossburlo Abbey". In the Middle Ages and early modern period, it was alternately inhabited by Cistercians, Williamites, and again Cistercians. In the course of secularization, the monastery was dissolved in 1803. Since 1920, it has housed a school sponsored by the Oblates. The associated abbey church is dedicated to the Mother of God.

An oratory was built as early as 1220. This was in the possession of the Cistercian monastery Marienborn between 1242 and 1245. In 1245, it was settled by Williamites from the Netherlands. Pope Nicholas V ordered its transfer to the Cistercians in 1447/48.

The name Mariengarden first appeared in documents in 1398.

Between 1585 and 1589, the monastery was severely burdened by looting several times during the Spanish-Dutch War. New destructions occurred during the Thirty Years' War. In 1803, the monastery was dissolved as a result of the Reichsdeputationshauptschluss; land, buildings, and inventory, especially the monastic library, thus came into the possession of the Princes of Salm-Salm and Salm-Kyrburg (Principality of Salm, Salm (nobility)).

With the treaty concluded at Mariengarden Abbey on October 19, 1765, the previously disputed border between the Dutch province of Gelderland and the Prince-Bishopric of Münster was definitively regulated and has remained unchanged ever since. Today, the hiking trail on both sides of the border leads from the "St. Vitus Stone" at the intersection of the municipal boundaries of Südlohn – Winterswijk and Vreden, via numerous old "customs and smuggler paths" to Burlo Abbey.

Already in the 19th century, parts of the monastery were used for schooling. In 1920, the Oblates of Mary Immaculate re-settled Mariengarden Abbey and founded a private school there, the Gymnasium Mariengarden. Today, 20 priests and brothers belong to the community, which is led by Superior P. Martin Benning OMI. The community's activities extend to parish pastoral care and school pastoral care, and the community also manages a guesthouse with 130 beds.

In 1220, the first oratory was built. Around 1300, the construction of the church began. Initially only partially completed, the construction was finished in 1474. After the destructions in the Thirty Years' War, a new consecration took place in 1682.

In the late 17th century, the east and north wings of the monastery building were erected. The west wing was built in 1718/19. In 1752, a crypt was built south of the church. A few years later, a new sacristy was built above the crypt. After the dissolution of the monastery, parts of the east wing were demolished in 1823.
