Marienweiher Monastery, a Franciscan monastery in Upper Franconia, is a religious center and pilgrimage site. It is situated at an elevation of approximately 498 meters above sea level and is known for its Baroque basilica.

History+

The Marienweiher Monastery was founded in 1646 by Melchior Otto Voit von Salzburg, who was then the Bishop of Bamberg. Initially conceived as a hospice, it developed into a convent from 1699 onwards. Between 1718 and 1721, the current Baroque pilgrimage basilica was constructed. During the secularization in Bavaria in 1802, the monastery was taken into civilian possession but not officially dissolved. After a period of decline, it was officially re-established on July 18, 1828, with the Bavarian Franciscans receiving a contractually secured right of use. Since 1984, the monastery has been managed by the Silesian Province of the Franciscan Order.
