The Monastery can be visited

The former Cistercian abbey, Maulbronn Monastery, is located in the center of Maulbronn on the southwestern edge of the Stromberg. It is considered one of the best-preserved medieval monastic complexes north of the Alps and showcases a variety of architectural styles from Romanesque to late Gothic. Since 1993, it has been a UNESCO World Heritage site.

History+

The monastery's origins date back to 1138, when the noble Walter von Lomersheim donated his ancestral estate Eckenweiher for a Cistercian monastery. Twelve monks and an abbot from Alsace began construction. However, as the original site was unsuitable, the monastery was moved around 1147 to Mulenbrunnen, a forest valley gifted to the order by Bishop Günther von Speyer. Under imperial protection, Maulbronn quickly developed into a regional center.
