Metten Abbey
Metten Abbey, a Benedictine monastery dedicated to Saint Michael, is located in Lower Bavaria near Deggendorf. It is renowned as one of Bavaria's ancient monasteries and played a significant role in the revival of the Benedictine order in Bavaria after secularization, as well as in the establishment of monasticism in the USA.
History+
The foundation of Metten Abbey dates back to the late 8th century. It was dissolved in 1803 during the secularization. From 1830 onwards, the monastery experienced a revival and became a hub for the renewal of other Bavarian Benedictine monasteries. The emergence of the Benedictine order in the United States of America also originated from Metten.

Metten Abbey is situated in Metten, a municipality in the district of Deggendorf in Bavaria, Germany, at an elevation of approximately 323 meters above sea level. It is nestled between the foothills of the Bavarian Forest and the Danube Valley.

Today, Metten Abbey is an active Benedictine monastery. It houses the St.-Michaels-Gymnasium Metten and operates various craft workshops. The veneration of Saint Benedict of Nursia within the monastery contributed to the spread of the Benedictine Blessing.
