Meyendorf Abbey

The former Meyendorf estate was first mentioned in a deed of gift from 1192 as being in the possession of the Archbishop of Magdeburg. In 1261, Heinrich and Gebhard von Gronenberg, servants of the Archbishop of Magdeburg, founded a Cistercian convent in Meyendorf. In the following years, the convent bought numerous outworks and country estates, including the Meyendorf estate, thus acquiring wealth.

After a fire in 1610 and the turmoil of the Thirty Years' War, the convent was rebuilt. In 1808, the convent was secularized. The buildings and lands fell to a Magdeburg merchant, who established an estate here and had a landscape park laid out. In 1945, the owners were forcibly dispossessed and expelled by the communists. The land was allocated to new farmers, and a retirement home was established in the former convent.
