Kloster Mödingen, also known as Maria Medingen, is a historic monastic complex in Bavaria, near Dillingen an der Donau. It is distinguished by its long history as a Dominican convent and the architectural design by Dominikus Zimmermann.

History+

The first documented mention of Kloster Mödingen dates back to 1239. It was consecrated to the Dominican nuns and bore the patronage of the Assumption of Mary. Over the centuries, the monastery developed under the territorial rule of the Wittelsbach family, which later passed to the Principality of Palatinate-Neuburg. The current monastery complex and its church were built between 1716 and 1721 by Dominikus Zimmermann, with the stucco work and frescoes by Johann Baptist Zimmermann. In 1802, the monastery was secularized, but the convent was allowed to remain in the buildings.
