Mönchsdeggingen Monastery, a complex of the Mariannhill Missionaries, is situated on the southern edge of the Ries in Bavaria. Originally founded in the 10th or 11th century, it was a Benedictine nunnery and later a Benedictine monastery.

History+

The monastery, dedicated to Saint Martin, was founded in the 10th or 11th century by the Ottonian ruling house, ancestors of Emperor Henry II. Initially, it served as a Benedictine nunnery until 1138, before being converted into a Benedictine monastery for monks in 1142. After a fire in 1512/13, the complex was rebuilt under Abbot Alexander Hummel, and the associated pilgrimage church later received a Baroque redesign.
