The Mühlberg Monastery, once a Cistercian nunnery, is located in the town of Mühlberg/Elbe in the federal state of Brandenburg. It stands as a significant testament to medieval sacred architecture in the Elbe-Elster region.

History+

The foundation of Mühlberg Monastery, dedicated to Saint Mary, took place in 1228 through a donation from the brothers Otto and Bodo von Ileburg. Margrave Heinrich the Illustrious of Meissen confirmed the transformation of the local parish church into a monastic church and supported the monastery with endowments. In the course of the Reformation, the monastery was secularized between 1539 and 1559. Since 2000, Claretian fathers have been working towards a revival of the former monastic life.
