Muri Abbey
Muri Abbey, a former Benedictine monastery in the Swiss canton of Aargau, is a significant landmark in the Freiamt region. It is classified as a cultural asset of national importance and is closely linked to the history of the Habsburgs.

The foundation of Muri Abbey took place around the year 1027 or 1030. It was dedicated to Saint Martin. After its establishment, it developed into an important Benedictine abbey. For over a century, Muri functioned as a double monastery until the Benedictine convent of Hermetschwil separated in the early 13th century. The abbey acquired extensive properties and rights in various cantons. In the 17th century, Muri experienced a period of prosperity, becoming the wealthiest abbey in Switzerland. In 1701, it was elevated to the rank of a princely abbey and even acquired a territorial lordship on the Neckar. The abbey's existence concluded in the late 12th century when it was dissolved and secularized.

The cloister is renowned for its stained-glass cycle. Since 1971, the Loreto Chapel has served as the burial site for the Habsburgs. The other buildings within the complex are used for various purposes, including a school, administrative offices, a public library, and a nursing home.
