Kloster Neuenzell

Neuenzell's origins date back to 1240, when the brothers Hugo and Diethelm von Tiefenstein established a chapel or hermitage. This establishment, initially owned by the Lords of Tiefenstein, was later transferred to the monastery of St. Georgen in Stein am Rhein. Following its destruction around 1250 by Rudolf von Habsburg, which led to the expulsion of the monks, Neuenzell came under the administration of the monastery of St. Blasien in 1315. It was managed as a provostry there and, from 1699, gained Mary Magdalene as an additional patron saint. In the course of secularization and the dissolution of St. Blasien monastery, the settlement around the parish church was renamed Unteribach. As early as 1787, the provostry achieved greater independence through its own resident priest.

The former monastery of Neuenzell is located in present-day Unteribach, a district in Baden-Württemberg, Germany.

At the historical site of Neuenzell monastery, today stand the parish church and rectory of Unteribach, reflecting the continuous use of the location as a religious center.
