The origins of Kloster Niederehe date back to approximately 1175, when it was founded. Initially a convent for Premonstratensian nuns, it received numerous donations and legacies from noble benefactors throughout its history, leading to considerable prosperity. In the 15th century, the monastery complex was largely destroyed by fire, necessitating extensive reconstruction. In 1505, it was converted into a monastery for men, remaining under the Premonstratensian Order and subject to Steinfeld Abbey. The existence of Kloster Niederehe concluded with its secularization in 1802.
