History+
Around 1100, Count Friedrich von Bogen, who was also the cathedral bailiff of Regensburg, founded the monastery dedicated to Saints Peter and Paul. The first abbots until 1170 came from the Niederaltaich Monastery, placing Oberalteich under the influence of the Gorze Reform. Initially, the young monastery was heavily exploited financially by the Counts of Bogen, who held the Vogtship until 1245. The monastery experienced its first flourishing period under Abbot Poppo (1260–1282) after the Wittelsbachs took over the Vogtship. Following a fire in 1245, the complex was renovated under Abbots Heimo (1247–1252) and Purchard (1256–1260). Under Abbot Friedrich II. (1346–1358), the monastery was fortified. Abbot Johann II. Asperger (1438–1463) had the church redesigned.
