Ravengiersburg Abbey

The founding of Ravengiersburg Monastery took place in 1074. Count Berthold and Hedwig of Ravengiersburg, who remained childless, donated all their possessions for the establishment of this Augustinian canonry. Archbishop Siegfried I of Mainz then founded it for twelve canons. The Wildgrafen initially exercised the Vogtship, which later passed as a fief to the Lords of Heinzenberg. After the extinction of both families in the early 15th century, the Palatine Counts took over the Vogtship. In 1410, the entire provostry area, including the monastery, was assigned to the newly established Duchy of Pfalz-Simmern. Until the Reformation, Ravengiersburg developed into the most significant landowner between the Moselle and Nahe rivers.
