Rehna Abbey
The Rehna Monastery is a former monastic complex located in Northwest Mecklenburg, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. This historic site is characterized by its long and varied history, shaped by different religious orders.
History+
The Rehna Monastery was founded between 1236 and 1237. Initially, it was a convent of Benedictine nuns. Over the course of its history, the monastery changed its affiliation and was subsequently inhabited by Premonstratensian nuns and finally by Cistercian nuns. The monastery was dedicated to the Virgin Mary and Saint Elisabeth. It developed into an important spiritual center in Mecklenburg, supported by donations and the education of daughters from noble families. In the course of the Reformation, Rehna Monastery was dissolved in 1552.

The former monastic complex is situated in Rehna, a town in the Northwest Mecklenburg region of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Germany. The location is approximately 35 meters above sea level.

Today, the late Romanesque brick church with its tower and round-arched portal remains from the original monastery complex. An arcaded walkway and the longhouse are also preserved, with the latter now serving as an administrative building. A monastery garden was inaugurated in 2004.
