A former Benedictine abbey, Kloster Reichenbach, is situated in the Murg Valley in Baiersbronn-Klosterreichenbach. It is linked to the history of Kloster Hirsau.

History+

The foundation of Kloster Reichenbach traces back to a donation to Kloster Hirsau, initiated by a man named Bern. In May 1082, three monks and five lay brothers from Hirsau set out for the confluence of the Reichenbach and Murg rivers to establish the new settlement. The monastery church, dedicated to Saint Gregory, was consecrated in 1085 by Bishop Gebhard of Constance. In addition to the single-nave Romanesque church, other buildings such as a convent building, a hospital, and a mill were constructed. The monastery always remained a priory of Hirsau and thus dependent on it. The Vogt rights were held by the Counts of Eberstein.
