Riedern Abbey

In the royal charter, which is now preserved in the State Archives of Frauenfeld, King Conrad III confirmed on January 7, 1152, that a cell in Tiezelenheim, today's Detzeln, had been founded by a nobleman and free man named Marcward. The brothers were to live according to the Rule of Saint Augustine. The Lords of Krenkingen were appointed as protectors. The hermitage was probably located near today's Klausenhof. From 1166 onwards, the hermitage was no longer mentioned, but the former site remained in the possession of the monastery until its dissolution.

In 1214, Riedern was mentioned for the first time in a document by Pope Innocent III. In 1639, the right of Vogtship passed from the Lupfen to the Pappenheim. These were followed by the Princes of Fürstenberg. On July 16, 1740, around 1 p.m., the monastery burned down.
