Rossleben Monastery, originally an Augustinian monastery, is a historical structure in Thuringia. It is situated on the banks of the Unstrut and is now a foundation that operates a state-recognized monastery school.

History+

The Augustinian monastery was founded around 1140 by Count Ludwig von Wippra. As early as 1142, it received papal confirmation from Innocent II, followed by an imperial charter of protection from Frederick Barbarossa in 1174. In the mid-13th century, the monastery was converted into a Cistercian nunnery. Following the Reformation in the 16th century, the monastery was dissolved. In 1554, Heinrich von Witzleben founded a school on the premises, with Salomo Rhode as its first teacher.
