History+
The Monastery of Saint Joseph was founded in 1720 by the English Ladies from Munich. Its establishment was approved by Elector Maximilian II Emanuel of Bavaria and the Archbishop of Salzburg. During the secularization period at the beginning of the 19th century, the monastery underwent significant changes: in 1803, it lost its boarding school; in 1808, its assets; and in 1809, its independence, becoming a branch of the Institute of the English Ladies in Burghausen. The admission of novices was only permitted again in 1823. A school emerged from the monastery, which developed into today's Maria-Ward-Realschule and Maria-Ward-Gymnasium. In 2004, the monastery was renamed Congregatio Jesu. The patronage of the monastery is dedicated to Saint Joseph.
