Santuari de Nostra Senyora de Cura

The origins of the Santuari de Cura date back to 1229, when the first hermitages emerged on the mountain after the Christian reconquest of Mallorca by King Jaime I of Aragon. The renowned Mallorcan philosopher and theologian Ramon Llull (1232–1316) retreated here as a hermit around 1263, spending nearly a decade on Randa Mountain. During this period, he founded a school for Arabic and Latin to train missionaries and authored numerous works that significantly contributed to the development of Catalan as a literary language. After a period of decline from the mid-19th century, the use of the pilgrimage site was officially re-granted to the Franciscan Tertiaries in August 1913.

The Santuari de Nostra Senyora de Cura is located on the Puig de Randa, a prominent mountain in the municipality of Algaida on Mallorca, which belongs to the Balearic Islands in Spain. It is situated at an elevation of approximately 537 meters above sea level.

The monastery can be visited today. Visitors will find renovated former monk cells, which now serve as a hotel guesthouse. A small Ramon Llull Museum in the former grammar hall displays writings, artifacts, and images of the famous scholar.
