Schmerlenbach Monastery is a former Benedictine nunnery in the Winzenhohl district of the municipality of Hösbach in Bavaria, in the Diocese of Würzburg.

The monastery, dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary, later St. Agatha, was founded in 1218 by Gottfried von Kugelnberg, provost of Mockstadt and archdeacon of Würzburg. It was dissolved in 1803 during the secularization. In 1803, the monastery was handed over to the Archchancellor Karl Theodor von Dalberg. In 1807, he endowed the Aschaffenburg clerical seminary with the former possessions of the monastery. In 1812, Schmerlenbach became an independent parish with an attached correctional facility for clergy. The first director of the correctional facility was Georg Scheiblein (* July 19, 1766 in Aschaffenburg; † March 9, 1840 in Schmerlenbach).

Since 1985, the former monastery has housed an educational center of the Catholic Diocese of Würzburg.

Mother of God+

The late Gothic figure of the Mother of God of Schmerlenbach dates from around 1380. The saying "to make a face like the Mother of God of Schmerlenbach" is a well-known phrase in Franconia, referring to the suffering expression of the Gothic miraculous image in the pilgrimage church in Schmerlenbach.
