In Hösbach-Winzenhohl is Kloster Schmerlenbach, once a Benedictine abbey and now an educational center of the Catholic Diocese of Würzburg. Its history dates back to the early 13th century.

History+

The foundation of Schmerlenbach Monastery took place in 1218 by Gottfried von Kugelnberg, provost of Mockstadt and archdeacon of Würzburg. Originally dedicated to the Holy Virgin Mary, and later to Saint Agatha, it served as a Benedictine abbey. In the course of secularization, the monastery was dissolved in 1803 and passed into the possession of Arch-Chancellor Karl Theodor von Dalberg. In 1807, he transferred parts of the former monastic property to the Aschaffenburg Clerical Seminary.
