Kloster Schönthal, a former Augustinian Hermitage monastery, is in Schönthal in the Bavarian Diocese of Regensburg. Its history dates back to the 13th century.

History+

The origins of Kloster Schönthal date back to 1250 when it was initially founded as a Wilhelmine monastery. In 1263, the Augustinian Hermits took over the complex and managed it until its secularization in 1802. Following its dissolution, the monks were relocated to Munich, and the monastic estates and buildings, including a brewery and a pharmacy, were auctioned off. A fire destroyed the monastery church in 1833, but it was rebuilt and underwent extensive renovation in 1909.
