History+
The history of St. Anna Monastery begins in 1158, when it first existed as a monastery. It was dissolved in 1808 during secularization. A new foundation took place in October 1860 by Abbess Mater Franziska Wiest and other sisters of the Poor Clares order from Regensburg. The neo-Gothic monastery complex was built in 1858/59 south of a Gothic pilgrimage church. In 1898, the institution gained its independence. Due to numerous new entries, the complex was expanded into a four-wing structure in 1891 and received a stepped gable and two towers with spires. The St. Anna monastery church was also extended. Another renovation took place between 1965 and 1966. In 1970, the Poor Clares order was affiliated with the Franciscan order, and the community has since been known as the Franciscan Sisters of St. Anna Poor Clare Monastery, Riedenburg. The monastery church, originally a 14th-century pilgrimage church, was extended in 1735 and 1891 and received its current neo-Gothic tower.
