Kloster St. Jürgen am Strande

The origins of the St. Jürgen am Strande Monastery trace back to a hospital located outside the city walls, by the Strelasund, intended for people with contagious diseases. In preparation for the siege of Stralsund by imperial troops during the Thirty Years' War, this original hospital and its church were demolished between 1626 and 1627. The institution relocated to a new site on Mönchstraße in 1632. The current three-story building was constructed in 1753/1754 and initially served as a residence for those in need. Around 1830, the house underwent a redesign, which gave it its present late-classical facade with stucco grooving, string courses, and stucco ornaments.

The building is located at Mönchstraße 41 in Stralsund, a city in the Vorpommern-Rügen region of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Germany. It is situated within the core area of the historic old town, which is recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Following extensive renovation in 1998 and 1999, the listed building is now used as student accommodation. Additionally, two outbuildings from the second half of the 18th century are located in the courtyard.
