Kloster Strahlfeld is located in the region of Cham in Bavaria. Originally a dilapidated castle, it was transformed by the Missionary Dominican Sisters into a center for education and community.

History+

The origins of Kloster Strahlfeld date back to 1917, when Sisters Ignatia Hasslinger and Alacoque Moosmann acquired a run-down castle estate during World War I. Their goal was to prepare young women for missionary work in Africa. They rebuilt the ruin. The community grew rapidly, and by 1924, the first missionaries from Strahlfeld were sent to Zimbabwe. A total of 493 sisters were sent on missions until 1971. In Germany, the sisters were involved in agriculture, among other things, and ran a domestic science school for girls from 1923 to 1993.
