The Traunkirchen Monastery, once a Benedictine convent, is situated in Upper Austria. It is considered the oldest women's monastery in the region and shaped the ecclesiastical life of the Salzkammergut.

History+

The monastery was founded around 1020 by Count Wilhelm von Raschenberg-Reichenhall. Benedictine nuns from Nonnberg Abbey in Salzburg moved into the complex. The nuns managed estates, including lands in Leobengau. In 1448, Abbess Barbara I sold the rights to the Salvator Chapel in Trofaiach to King Frederick III. The monastery served as the mother parish for communities, including Aussee, Hallstatt, Goisern, Pinsdorf, and Nussdorf.
