The former Capuchin monastery of Türkheim, situated in the Bavarian Unterallgäu, looks back on a long history and stands as a testament to monastic life in the region.
History+
The foundation of Türkheim Monastery took place in 1685. Duke Maximilian Philipp of Bavaria, brother of the then Elector Ferdinand Maria of Bavaria, initiated the establishment of this spiritual institution. Unlike many other monasteries, Türkheim survived the secularization and initially continued to operate as a central monastery. King Ludwig I of Bavaria confirmed the monastery's continued existence on November 1, 1827. However, the presence of the Capuchins in Türkheim ended in 1972, when the last monks left the site due to a lack of new recruits.
