Kloster und Gymnasium Maria Königin

The monastery's origins date back to 1920, when the Missionaries of the Holy Family founded their first missionary school at Adolfsburg Castle in Oberhundem. After a relocation to Altenhundem, this school was closed in 1962. In September 1958, the order moved into a newly built missionary school with a boarding house on the country road from Altenhundem to Bilstein. Four years later, it was transformed into the Realschule Maria Königin, which then also admitted external students. In 1967, this led to the establishment of the Private Alt- und Neusprachliche Gymnasium Maria Königin, which opened its doors to girls from 1971. In 2000, the school's sponsorship transferred from the Missionaries of the Holy Family to the association "Gymnasium Maria Königin e. V." The monastery itself was officially closed by the German Province of the Missionaries of the Holy Family on October 1, 2015.

The complex is located in Olpe, a town in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. It is situated on a clear hill near country road 715, which leads from Altenhundem to Bilstein, just before the turn-off to Hohe Bracht.

The former monastery building is expected to be used by the Pallottiner-Jugendhof youth education center from Olpe. The Gymnasium Maria Königin continues to operate and has developed into a large school with a multitude of students and teachers. It emphasizes a Christian and value-oriented shaping of school life and offers a wide range of sports, support, and creative activities.
