Monastery operation

The Wechterswinkel Monastery, a former Cistercian abbey, was founded in 1134. It is situated in Wechterswinkel in the Rhön Grabfeld region of Bavaria.

History+

Bishop Embricho of Würzburg initiated its construction, with King Konrad III playing a role as co-founder. Originally consecrated to SS. Trinitas and St. Margareta, it is now dedicated to SS. Cosmas and Damian. In 1592, the monastery was dissolved by Julius Echter von Mespelbrunn, then Bishop of Würzburg. The monastery's assets formed the basis of a foundation benefiting parishes and schools.
