In the Middle Swabian municipality of Kammeltal in Bavaria, Wettenhausen Monastery, originally an imperial abbey of Augustinian canons, is now a Dominican convent. It is located at an elevation of approximately 464 meters above sea level.

History+

The first documented mention of Wettenhausen Monastery dates back to 1130 in a foundation charter issued by Bishop Hermann von Vohburg. Gertrud von Roggenstein and her sons Wernher and Konrad are named as its founders. However, an internal chronicle attributes the monastery's foundation to as early as 982, also by Countess Gertrud von Roggenstein and her sons. This earlier foundation may have taken place in Ettenbeuren, where the Augsburg Cathedral Chapter held extensive possessions. It is believed that the Roggenstein family handed over their moated castle on the Kammel river to the monastery in 1130, leading to its relocation to Wettenhausen.
