Zangberg Abbey

Zangberg Monastery is a monastery of the Sisters of the Visitation of Holy Mary, a Salesian order, in Zangberg in Upper Bavaria. The buildings date back to a castle from the year 1000. In 1285, this was expanded into a fortress and in 1687, after a fire, rebuilt as a four-winged castle around an inner courtyard by Ferdinand Maria Franz Freiherr von Neuhaus. In 1862, Carl Theodor Graf Geldern-Egmont sold the buildings to the Sisters of the Visitation of Holy Mary (an order of Salesian nuns). 26 sisters, 4 novices, and 1 candidate moved from Dietramszell to the new monastery.
