Zissendorf Abbey (Stoßdorf)

The founding of Zissendorf Monastery took place in 1247 in Blankenberg. During the 16th century, tensions arose when the nuns began to shed their habits around 1563 and conduct services in German, leading to conflicts with the Abbot of Heisterbach. After reaffirming their resistance to wearing the habit in 1565 and stating they did not understand Latin, they were interned by the Duke, and the monastery administration was reorganized. A fire in 1644 destroyed the monastery and the church, but a new altar was installed by 1654, and the rebuilt church was put back into use around 1670.
