Stephansabbey

Stephanskloster was founded around 1090 as a Benedictine monastery. The Benedictine Arnold initially built a hermitage and a chapel on the front summit of the Aberinsberg. Four years later, with the consent of Lorsch Abbey, Zundebold, the provost of the neighboring Michaelskloster, expanded the complex with additional buildings. The location on a then-bare hilltop allowed for monitoring of the Neckar Valley.
